Edward Plantagenet (Earl of Warwick)

The only son of George Duke of Clarence and Isabel Neville. After his father’s trial and execution for treason against Edward IV, this Edward lost his place in the line of succession as the son of a traitor. Had this not been the case then after Edward IV’s death this Edward would have had a better claim to the throne than Richard, Duke of Gloucester.

Richard III sent Edward with his sister, Margaret, to live at Sheriff Hutton. When Henry VII became King, Edward was transferred to the Tower of London and executed there at the age of 22 allegedly for planning to escape. From Henry’s point of view this was a convenient end to the potential threat of the last male Yorkist heir to the throne.
